What documents are acceptable as Proof of Identity?

Modified on Mon, 12 Feb at 12:18 PM

In order to use all the features Floin has to offer, you must complete Advanced Verification. In accordance with the Liechtenstein Law and regulations, we need to verify your identity. To do so, we ask you for a Proof of Identity (POI).

What is Proof of Identity (POI)?

The Proof of Identity (POI) is a document submitted during Advanced Verification that confirms that your personal information matches the information provided during your registration and verifies your identity.

A POI document must meet certain criteria in order to fulfill our legal and regulatory obligations. The document must be a photo of a valid travel document (electronic ID or passport), current (not expired), and issued by a valid issuer. It must clearly display your information about the issuer, and the date of issuance. The POI document must be issued in your name and match the information you provided during your registration.

Information that must be provided on a POI document includes:

  • your photograph
  • your full and correct current legal name
  • your full and correct current nationality
  • a date of issue that confirms the document has not expired
  • the name of the issuing authority
  • a reference to the issuing authority (e.g., a logo, contact information, or a website)
  • Machine Readable Zone (MRZ)
  • security features (e.g. holograms, electronic ID chip)

Which documents are accepted as Proof of Identity (POI)?

Only documents valid for travel abroad can be accepted. You need to upload a photo of the POI document issued by a valid issuer and showing: your photograph, your full and correct current legal name, your full and correct current nationality, a date of issue that confirms the document is not expired, the name of the issuer, a reference to the issuing authority and appropriate security features. The POI document must be issued in your name and match the information you provided during your registration. Scans are not accepted.

Valid documents include:

  • valid electronic ID (front and back side, with all edges visible)
  • valid passport (page containing your photo and personal information)

Country-specific notes:

Italy

  • Italian paper IDs cannot be accepted as they lack sufficient security features

Romania

  • Romanian paper IDs cannot be accepted as they lack a back side and sufficient security features.

Which documents are not accepted as Proof of Identity (POI)?

Expired, damaged, or non-travel documents that were not issued by an accredited issuer and do not clearly display your photograph, Machine Readable Zone (MRZ), your full and correct current name and nationality, or the name and reference to a valid issuing authority cannot be accepted. Scans, screenshots, photographs of screens, and partial, cropped, or otherwise edited documents are not eligible as POI.

Documents that are not valid as POI include:

  • paper IDs
  • drivers’ licenses
  • health insurance cards
  • residential permits
  • key cards
  • student ID cards
  • documents that do not match information provided upon registration

Country-specific notes:

Italy

  • Italian paper IDs cannot be accepted as they lack sufficient security features

Romania

  • Romanian paper IDs cannot be accepted as they lack a back side and sufficient security features.

How do I upload my Proof of Identity (POI) document?

The POI upload prompt will be presented to you after you start the Advanced Verification process. You will then be able to select or take a photo of your document.

  • Please keep in mind that expired or damaged documents cannot be accepted.
  • Make sure that your document is eligible to be used as Proof of Identity. Refer to the list above to make sure.
  • Check if the address and name you provided during registration match the information on your Proof of Identity.
  • The document should be captured vertically when taking a photograph to ensure all information is included.
  • Please do not submit photographs taken in landscape mode.
  • Make sure to only use complete, unedited, uncropped documents when uploading your POI document. The information on the document should be without blurs or glare and clearly legible. Scans, screenshots, or photographs of the screen are not accepted.
  • Please check if your document is submitted in the correct format. We accept .PDF, .JPG, .JPEG, and .PNG. Documents in other formats cannot be uploaded or accepted.

In most cases, POI is approved automatically within 10 minutes. If it requires an additional manual review by one of our Compliance Specialists, the review may take up to 2-3 working days. If the process is taking longer than that or you have questions, feel free to contact our Support Team.
